The land-based RAS technology systems that Amanda manages daily help grow fish to the ‘smolt’ size, before transitioning into ocean farms. Getting to apply her science-based training from Dalhousie is part of why Amanda is stoked about her role.
“We’re using nearly 90% recycled and cleaned water here at this land-based salmon farm. It’s pretty cool, we’re only really using a small portion of freshwater from local sources. So, our technology is helping us protect the environment and grow our smolts until they’re ready for the ocean.”
Aside from her new found passion for fly fishing, Amanda’s pumped to be a homeowner with a stable and well-paid job.
