The 18th Annual Healthy Chef Competition – held on Wednesday, March 22 – showcased the talents of 10 culinary teams, including a team from Vancouver Island University – led by Chef Debbie Shore, Chef Francois De Jong, and Chef David Nolan.
Presented by the BC Produce Marketing Association and the BC Chefs Association the evening didn’t disappoint. Attendees had the opportunity to view the dishes that each team made prior to the official start of the evening. Once seated, attendees each opened an envelope that contained two cards – one revealing the entrée, while the other listed the dessert. This made for an interesting meal with a variety of different type of proteins around the table, including farm-raised salmon, mixed seafood, pork, and lamb.
The evening wrapped up with the announcement of the winning teams selected by the official panel of judges: Vancouver Community College (“Best Entrée Healthy Plate”), Airport Marriott (“Best Dessert”), and EBO Restaurant (“Best Children’s Entrée”). In addition, White Spot received the “People’s Choice” award and Marriott received the award for “Best Table Showcase”.
