B.C. Seafood Month Highlights Fresh B.C. Seafood

June has been a busy month for the BC Salmon Farmers Association and its members, especially with the BC Shellfish and Seafood Festival taking place from June 9th-18th in the Courtenay – Comox region. The festival offers ten days of seafood tastings, chef demonstrations, gala dinners, educational seminars, aquaculture tours, and more – celebrating B.C.’s seafood industry, producers and its bounty. Here is a recap of some of the fantastic events that the BCSFA and its members had the pleasure of participating in.

Tim Rundle Named Organic Champion of the Year

On April 5th, BCSFA Executive Board Member / Creative Salmon General Manager, Tim Rundle was honored with the Organic Champion of the Year award at the inaugural Canadian Organic Trade Association’s (COTA) awards night. Held in Vancouver, the event celebrated the contributions of organic agriculture and aquaculture producers across Canada.

Surrey Fire Fighters Aim to ‘Ignite a Dream’

On the evening of April 1st, the Surrey Fire Fighters Association hosted their annual ‘Ignite a Dream’ event in an effort to raise money to provide educational opportunities for children in Surrey. Close to 400 guests attended the cocktail style event at the Semiahmoo Shopping Centre, which accommodated 60 different food, wine, and beer stations for the evening.

The 18th Annual Healthy Chef Competition – held on Wednesday, March 22 – showcased the talents of 10 culinary teams, including a team from Vancouver Island University – led by Chef Debbie Shore, Chef Francois De Jong, and Chef David Nolan.

Culinary Team From Vancouver Island Takes On Healthy Chefs Competition

For the first time in its 18-year history, the Healthy Chef Competition welcomes a team from Vancouver Island to compete against nine other teams from the Metro Vancouver area on March 22, 2017. This annual competition – presented by the BC Produce Marketing Association and the BC Chefs Association – promises to be a fun evening of gourmet dining.
